HOME: The Library of Lore, an imposing citadel that sits atop a barren bluff in The Outlands, accessed by a great stair guarded by four elder elementals, walls proofed against teleportation. Known as the Uncaring, the Lord of Magic, The Archmage of the Deities. All times and places are open to him, and he has visited many alternate realities and planes unknown to the wisest of sages, places even the Elder Evils avoid. ETHOS: Magic is the most important force in the Universe, holding the balance between Law and Chaos, Good and Evil. SYMBOL: An Eye in a Pentagram, usually worn on an amulet. Corellon Larethian

Corellon Larethian

HOME: Lives on the plane of Arborea in Arvandor, second root of Yggdrasil. Corellon Larethian is the supreme deity of all the Elven Races. His greatest enemy is Gruumsh, god of the orcs, but he is also despised by the followers of Lolth because of his banishment of her to darkness. He is a god of magic, music, arts, poetry and warfare.
ETHOS: To protect and preserve the Elven race and to thwart the plans and schemes of the Orcs and the Drow
SYMBOL: Crossed Arrow and Longsword
FAVOURED WEAPON: Longsword
TEMPLES: Large gilted temples made of alabaster and marble.
CLERGY: Priests wear cloaks of bright azure.
RITUAL: Once a month, during Luna (the crescent moon) rituals are held to revere beautiful art through song and dance.
FESTIVALS: Once a year the ceremony of Richfest celebrates the victory of Corellon Larethian over Gruumsh

Eilistraee

Eilistraee

HOME: She lives in Arvandor, the second root of Yggdrasil, although she also has a part of the Demonweb Pits. It is told that she rarely visits the Demonweb Pits. She voluntary took the punishment of Correllon Larethian so that the Drow would have a chance of salvation when they were cast into darkness. She reveres song, dance and all merriment.
ETHOS: To regain for her people a place in the sunlit world, where they can sing and dance and be free of the darkness and the imposed matriarchy of Lolth
SYMBOL: Crescent Blade or Silver Bastard Sword
CLERGY: Usually female, they have no ceremonial garb, preferring to dance naked in the moonlight.
VESTMENTS: naked when in ceremony, otherwise daily wear.
RITUAL: Many rituals using song and dance, usually performed at night when the stars are bright.
FESTIVALS: Most important ceremony is The Hunt, held at full moon, when followers gather together and chase evil creatures and fiends, killing as many as they can.

Gond

Gond

HOME: His home is the Plane of Concordant Opposition. He is a master craftsman and god of all invention, tools and machinery. He often gets so carried away by the wonder of his own inventions that he does not perceive the consequences of their use by mortals. Also known as Nebelun to the Gnomes and Aule to the Dwarves.
ETHOS: Creation of wonderful items is praised and rewarded and the use of smokepowder should be occulted.
SYMBOL: A Wooden Cog with Four Spears
CLERGY: Clergy of any alignment may worship Gond. They usually pray after their morning meal.
FAVOURED WEAPON: The Hammer
TEMPLES: The most important temple in Faerun is the High Holy Crafthouse of Inspiration in Sambar on the Island of Lantan. Most other temples are plain stone boxes with little or no decoration.
RITUAL: Followers of Gond believe in actions over words and believe in the benefits of experimentation to bring about greater knowledge.
FESTIVALS: The Holy Festival of Ippensheir at the beginning of spring.

Ilmater

Ilmater

HOME: His home is on Celestia and he is also associated with Tyr and Torm. Also known as The Broken God or the Crying God.
ETHOS: Help all who hurt, no matter who they are. The truly holy take on the suffering of others.
SYMBOL: Two broken and bound hands, or other representation of human suffering, including tattoo of a tear below they eye.
CLERGY: Priests of Ilmater are known as Ilmatari and particularly gear their work towards the wounded and dying, homeless and suffering. They usually wear grey tunics and pray about six times a day, and often have brew potions to reach those they cannot help with Divine Magic.
FAVOURED WEAPON: The Open Hand (unarmed strike)
TEMPLES: They do not favour large temples but work throughout the land, taking refuge where they may. All Priests of Ilmater are welcomed in Temples of Tyr and Torm.
RITUAL: They do not have any designated Holy Days but in times of great need may request a Plea of Rest (a ten day period during which time Clerics may have respite from the strict dictates of Ilmater in order to prevent extreme suffering or emotional exhaustion. During this time, Clerics are permitted to do things that Ilmater would normally frown upon, without atonement or punishment).
MONKS AND SAINTS: There are more monks and saints serving Ilmater than most other faiths. Many of these gain special favour by devotion to strict vows, e.g. Vows of Poverty, Purity and Peace.

Iuz

Iuz

HOME: Unlike many other deities, Iuz makes his home on Oerth, where he rules a large area of the Flanaesss known as The Empire of Iuz. He is the son of Gra’azt and Iggwilv (now a captive of Gra’azt) and is the embodiment of Evil on Oerth. Although a servant ot Gra’azt, he is also a loyal follower of Tharizdun and believes he would benefit from Tharizdun’s freedom.
ETHOS: The strong should exploit the weak, for such is their right. Deceit and guile are the proper tools of the enlightened ruler.
SYMBOL: A grinning human skull with red eyes.
CLERGY: Iuz Clerics believe in survival of the fittest and so often battle each other for supremacy. They constantly seek powerful magic and captured creatures as trophies to prove their worthiness. Divided into two tiers – Greater and Lesser Boneheart (consisting of an assortment of evil spellcasters, both arcane and divine. The Boneshadow are spies and Secret agents that serve these two tiers unflinchingly – 6 in number.
TEMPLES: Shrines in the shape of ziggurats in honour of Tharizdun.

Lliira

HOME: Lliira lives on Olympus and is a goddess of joy, happiness, dancing, festivals and release.
ETHOS: She believes in the power of song over the sword, and cannot abide violence.
SYMBOL: Golden Flower
CLERGY: Clergy wear brightly coloured outfits with many jewels and use song and dance in their rituals.
TEMPLES: Her clerics may gather to worship in any good temple but will often hallow ground in field and forest and will make dancing areas at festivals.
VESTMENTS: Rich colours with rubies and sapphires.
RITUAL: Various combinations of song and dance, including the Dance of Death for enemies, in which dancers are armed with blades in their boots. (Very Rare)

Lolth

Lolth

HOME: Lolth lives in the Demonweb Pits, formerly part of the Abyss, but now a plane on its own. She is the dark mother of the Drow, Queen of Spiders, Mistress of Darkness. She was once Araushnee, lover of Corellan Larethian, but betrayed him and was cast with her children, Vhaeraun and Eilistraee, into the abyss. She appears as either a monstrous spider, a beautiful drow woman or a combination of both, with spider body and legs supporting elven torso.
ETHOS: Fear is the strongest power and love and respect are weak and useless. The strong should crush the weak in the most torturous ways imaginable.
SYMBOL: Black Spider with a Female Head or a Spiderweb
CLERGY: All clerics are female and wear black robes with silver jewellery. Higher priestesses have access to the Handmadens of Lolth, Yochlols.
TEMPLES: All temples are dark and austere, usually carved out of the underdark and powerful beacons of force in most Drow cities.
FAVOURED WEAPON: Dagger or Spider
RITUAL: Various dark rituals containing self sacrifice of many types, sacrifice of magical items and life sacrifice, particularly human and humanoid.
FESTIVALS: There are many dark rituals in the worship of the Spider Queen but most are of two main types: Reverence – where Lolth is worshipped through sacrifice, and Contest – where two loyalists battle for supremacy, using magic or weaponry, resulting in the victor being revered and the loser cast out or killed.

Milil

Milil

HOME: Milil lives in the forests on the slopes of Olympus but often manifests in any forest or in response to music played by bards. He usually appears as a charismatic human or elf, and his presence is often felt by powerful bards.
ETHOS: He believes in communication of knowledge through the power of song and will often use birds and woodland creatures as messengers to mortals.
SYMBOL: Silver Harp
FAVOURED WEAPON: Rapier (Sharptongue)
CLERGY: The Priests, or “Sorlyns” as they are called, pray for spells upon awakening at sunrise, calling out to the Lord of Song with the Song of Praise, which is also sung after every victory in battle or great thing that benefits them. Most clerics multiclass as bards.
VESTMENTS: Usually plain garb or even battle gear.

Mystra

HOME: Mystra lives in her own realm of Dweomerheart and is responsible for The Weave that holds magic together throughout the universe. She has been through 3 incarnations and has shifted from Lawful Neutral to Neutral Good.
ETHOS: Magic should be used carefully by mortals, and to good ends, not evil. True wisdom is knowing when not to use magic.
SYMBOL: Circle of seven blue white stars with blue mist flowing from centre.
CLERGY: Usually multi-classed and quite often users of arcane magic as well, they explore magical theory and often create new spells.
TEMPLES: Hidden shrines that are pockets of weavemagic, allowing her clerics to cast higher level spells without recourse to metamagic feats.
VESTMENTS: From plain cloth to rich robes.
RITUAL: Combinations of Divine and Arcane rituals, involving the pursuit of knowledge

Nerull

Nerull

HOME: Nerull lives in the Tarterian realm of Carceri in a great city of Undead. He was not banished there but prefers to live there. He has had considerable influence throughout the Flaenness and is said to have had many followers from the lands around The Free City of Greyhawk. ETHOS: Nerull is known as the god of Death, Darkness and Murder. He is also known as The Reaper, Hater of Life and Bringer of Darkness. He is followed by those who seek the greatest evil for their own enjoyment or gain and is not so much worshipped as sought out and bartered with. It is said that any form of appeasement will attract his attention. SYMBOL: A skull or a sickle. Nerull carries a long staff that turns into a sickle on his command. CLERGY: Clerics of Nerull wear dark robes and worhip in secret, usually underground. They are feared throughout Oerth as cold, calculating murderers. . VESTMENTS: Various dark robes RITUAL: All the rituals are ghastly things performed in absolute darkness. FESTIVALS: One Unholy Day per year is held in the dead of winter – The Blood Moon Festival! Olidammara

Olidammara

HOME: He lives in the Den of Olidammara, which as situated in Ysgard, near to the border of Limbo.
ETHOS: Sometimes known as the “Bard of the Gods” and sometimes called “The Laughing Rogue”, he is a popular deity in non evil regions of the Flanaess (where Greyhawk is situated) and is a god of Music, Revels, Wine, Rogues, Humour and Tricks.
SYMBOL: Most Commonly a Mask or drawing of a Mask, but also a kanteel and the number nine.
CLERGY: Clerics of Olidammara often frequent taverns and inns, where they establish good relations with people while they are merry. They usually wear green, black and brown coloured robes and have short quick rituals to accompany any eating and drinking, often blessing the food and drink many times over.
TEMPLES: There are few temples. More commonly, the Priests will visit shrines, which are dotted throughout the Flanaess. Sometimes actual Inns and Taverns are converted to places of worship and may be considered temples.
FAVOURED WEAPON: Olidammara is a great musician and bard and wields the Kanteel of the Oldest, which he uses to enhance his magical powers.
RITUAL: Many blessings and rituals are performed over ingested food and drink and there are special rituals of music and poetry. The most important festival is Brewfest, a week of celebrating held in October. Others include The Great Escape (a celebration of Olidammara’s escape from the Godtrap of Zagyg), The Feast of the Doubling Dare and The Taste of a Hundred Years (an annual wine tasting event).

Osiris

Osiris

HOME: Lives on the planet Xypteras (see Ra) but, like Ra, leaves his main aspect on Earth while travelling far away from the populated planet. He is Lord of the Living and the Dead and although he takes the souls of the dead, he also brings life from the ground.
ETHOS: Osiris shows the way to Eternal Life through reverence of the world and of Ra.
SYMBOL: A Crook and a Flail
CLERGY: The Holy Water of the Nile is revered above all and is kept in Holy Casks to be poured over any objects to bless them. Once a year on Khemet (harvest), the Holy Water is used to bake Holy Cakes which provide sustenance through the winter but which also have magical healing properties.
TEMPLES: Pyramids and great halls with sarcophagi in the central rooms.
VESTMENTS: White and gold
RITUAL: Prayer, anointing of holy water, baking of bread, mummification of kings for travel to the Afterlife.
FESTIVALS: Khemet at harvest time, Ankhmet at winter solstice.

Pelor

Pelor

HOME: Fortress of the Sun, once known as Light’s Blessing, in Elysium – gold plated citadel on the Elysium’s Isle of Thalasia.
In Fourth Edition, Pelor’s realm is called Hestavar, the Bright city. (A metropolis of precious stones and metals on island of earth hovering above a bright lagoon.)
Worshipped by good creatures of Oerth (Greyhawk).
ETHOS: Justice and freedom are brought about through charity, modesty, perseverance and self-sacrifice.
Pelor is wrathful against the forces of evil and is especially opposed to the undead. However, Pelor urges his follower to remember that excessive attention to things of evil can blind one to the truly important things in life: compassion and goodness. These are what must be emphasized above all.
SCRIPTURES: The Light of Pelor is the most common Holy Book.
CLERGY: Pelor’s clergy heal the sick, bless crops, help the needy and destroy evil and undead. Elite priests are called Radiant Servants of Pelor.

Ra

Ra

HOME: Planet Xypteras that orbits the sun on a 3 600 year trajectory compared to planet Earth’s annual orbit. While Xypteras travels far from Earth, Ra leaves his most powerful aspect governing the star that earth dwellers call “the Sun”. A God of alignment, both in terms of celestial bodies and in alliances with other gods.
ETHOS: Power is granted by the benevolence of Ra to all who worship him and show mercy in dealing justice to lesser beings.
SCRIPTURES: The tablet of the Ra
CLERGY: Ra’s clerics administer justice to the people, who are seen as being continually warring against each other. Mercy is the most Divine Power

Set

HOME: Set lives in the great deserts of the Planet Earth. He is the God of Chaos and uses elemental forces of fire and wind, which he can bend to his might. Although once a faithful travelling companion of his grandfather, Ra, Set soon left his father’s side so that he and his son Annubis could have greater influence over the people that lived in the great fertile valleys around the deserts of the planet.
ETHOS: Chaos is a necessary balancing force in the Universe and must be used to break down the order of Law and Institution so that new forces can thrive.
SCRIPTURES: The Papyrus Blades of Set and Annubis are mockeries of the Tablet of Ra.
CLERGY: Priests of Set are stern, and prone to making rash judgements, including life sacrifice and Rivers of Blood.
SYMBOL: Human with the Head of a Jackal or Ankh upside down
VESTMENTS: Black, Red and Gold
RITUAL: Set remains mostly in the desert and is very rarely seen by his worshippers but he will often send his son Annubis, who looks the same, and does his father’s bidding.
FESTIVALS: Festivals are called at any time Set feels like it. Annubis will appear to the most powerful priest and tell him Set’s instructions.

Tempus

Tempus

HOME: Tempus was instrumental in the fight against the primordial Gods of Chaos, primarily because Tharizdun and his servants observed no rules. He reigns as the only major God of War over Faerun and dwells in various places in the outer planes, but always directing his efforts towards Faerun. ETHOS: Be fearless, Never turn away from a fight, Obey the rules of war. SYMBOL: A blazing silver sword on a blood red shield. CLERGY: Priests of Tempus are usually warlike priests, based in temples that are as fortified castles They are charged to keep the rules of warfare and train themselves in battle readiness in order to protect civilisation. Priests usually pray for spells at sunset. SCRIPTURE: Clerics study the Warrior Code, of which there are many versions of in various tomes and scrolls spread throughout their dedicated temples. VESTMENTS: Usually battle gear, although armour may be removed to make things more comfortable. FESTIVALS: There are many Holy Days and celebrations throughout the year, including the Feast of The Moon, an annual festival to honour the dead, and many others celebrating great battles. Each temple holds a Feast of the Heroes at highsun and a Feast of the Fallen at Sunset. They also offer the Song of the Sword at night for layfolk. PORTFOLIO: Battle, War, Worshippers. DOMAINS: Protection, Strength, War, Chaos. ALIGN: Chaotic Neutral, although warrior worshippers of all alignments are welcomed.

Torm

Torm

HOME: Torm lives in Celestia and is closely aligned with Ilmater, the God of Suffering in the service of Tyr, the God of Justice. His main concern is with the subjects of Toril, although he often spends time in discussion with St Cuthbert. From being a relatively obscure deity, Torm has risen through the ranks and is favoured by Tyr.
ETHOS: Torm is a warlike God who powerfully champions righteousness, honesty, loyalty and truth. His message to his followers is “Obey your masters with alert judgement and anticipation and stand ever alert against corruption. Honour your faith, your family, your masters and all good beings.”
SYMBOL: A metal gauntlet held upright with palm forward.
CLERGY: Torm’s clerics pray at dawn and the most powerful body are known collectively as the Order of the Golden Lion. These priests run temples throughout Faerun, helping the poor and the faithful and standing as proud beacons against evil cults.
TEMPLES: The temples are few but well spread out and all fortified so that they may also be used as places of refuge and fortification for their followers in times of trouble.
FAVOURED WEAPON: Greatsword or Longsword. Torm himself uses a greatsword called Duty’s Bond and will often be seen wielding this weapon on the back of a great dragon.
RITUAL: The ongoing aiding of other goodly faiths is known as The Penance of Duty and the two main Festival Days are the Day of Divine Death, a remembrance of victory over Bane, and the Day of True Resurrection, commemorating Torm returning from the Dead after a great sacrifice during the Godwars.

Tharizdun

Tharizdun

HOME: The Demiplane of Imprisonment. Tharizdun was forced there by the Droomalith and a coalition of lawful Gods to balance the Universe after the Rift of Chaos threatened to destroy the early universe. Also known as Great Cthulhu, He Who Waits,The Undoer, the Eater of Worlds and The Chained God, he is the embodiment of all that was destructive to everything that lived.
ETHOS: It is believed that Tharizdun has no allies, given his desire to destroy the entire universe. It is thought that if he were ever freed, even the most evil deities would work with their good counterparts to return Tharizdun to his prison. However, he does employ certain fiends, including Iuz, Zuggtmoy and the Princes of Elemental Evil.
SCRIPTURES: Most are lost. There is talk of ancient tomes by various evil clerics, including “The Lament for Lost Tharizdun” by his last cleric, Wonga.
CLERGY: Secretive cultists, usually mad and living under the mistaken belief that they will reap great rewards if ever The Great One is released.
TEMPLES: Black ziggurats in the most obscure locations. It is said that knowledge of such temples alone would be enough to raise and army of Palladins.
VESTMENTS: Red and Black
RITUAL: Dark songs, secret ceremonies, life sacrifice, etc.
FESTIVALS: Hogmannay – the turn of the year, where priests become intoxicated with drugs and liquor and do their best to cause extreme mayhem and even slaughter.

Vhaeraun

Vhaeraun

HOME: Vhaeraun lives in his own section of the Demonweb Pits but is opposed to Lolth and is constantly looking for an opportunity to kill her. His own son, Selvetarm is a subject of Lolth and they have once fought each other to a stalemate. At the time of The Faces of Divinity rumour has it that Vhaeraun has been killed and subsumed by Eilistraee, although some clerics of Vhaerun claim that Vhaeraun was the victor and Eilistraee is actually Vhaeraun in disguise. Also known as the Masked Lord and The Shadow.
ETHOS: Reclaim the sunlit world for all drow with dominion over other humanoids and free the drow from the matriarchal hold of Lolth’s worship.
SYMBOL: A black half face mask.
CLERGY: Secretive cultists in the underdark due to suppression by Lolth, often aided by the Jaezred Chaulssin (a secret order of assassins dedicated to Vhaeraun and the overthrowal of Matriarchal order).
TEMPLES: Usually use obscure temples of Lolth, but also create temples out of any underdark chambers where Lolth’s followers will not find them.
RITUAL: Dark meditation and Silent Trance.

Zagyg

Zagyg

HOME: Zagyg lives in the plane of Concordant Opposition but often travels to the Prime Material plane or to one of his self made demi planes, The Isle of the Ape, and Zagyg’s Maze.
ETHOS: Zagyg works for Boccob and is the God of Humour, Eccentricity, Occult Lore and Unpredictability. HOME: The 222nd level of the Abyss. She usually appears as a huge puffball fungus astride four elephantine legs, although sometimes she can appear as an old crone, hag or even as an extremely beautiful female. She can always extrude deadly pseudopods from any of her chosen forms. She shares her plane of the Abyss with the Demon Lord, Jubilex.
ETHOS: She is well known as the builder of the Temple of Elemental Evil, along with her friend and ally, Iuz. As well as being evil, she is also worshipped by all fungal beings.
SCRIPTURES: There are no known scriptures but it is said that her influence can sometimes be found in Myconid Memory Spores.
CLERGY: Rare among normal humans and humanoids, any cleric of Zuggtmoy usually worships in darkness and utters dark chants to the dark smelly goddess.
TEMPLES: Some temples can be found in the Underdark but few are found on the surface of any world.
RITUAL: Low humming is common among any worshippers of this beast.
FESTIVALS: Samhain is the time for Zuggtmoy celebration due to the intense growth of Psylocybin around this period.
